Old English Sheepdogs andWest Highland White Terriers in TasmaniaWelcome to our web site!
Starting our adventure by showing and breeding Old english Sheepdogs and West Highland White Terriers
Since I was very young I was totally fascinated by Dog Shows, I used to go on weekends just to admire those pure breed dogs being groomed and show by people who spend hours in these events. I knew from very young that I wanted to be part of this group, and someone very close to me bought me my very first Pure breed bitch, she was an American Cocker Spaniel named "Samka". I guess we all go through the same thing, she turned out to be not the best American Cocker for a show ring, but more important I had no Idea how to prepare or show a dog. I was content to take her to the groomers and think that I had a little bit of this "dog show" business at home. Then my partner and I migrated to Australia in 1999 and as soon as we could afford a house we purchased our second dog, another American Cocker from a breeder in Victoria. As we were living in the Blue Mountains in NSW at the time, it was hard once again to show or get the right advice on grooming etc... We also got our first Westie, all because the famous "dog food" add on television. No Luck with this Westie either so we got another one... this time we were offered "the pick of the litter", so this very inexperienced and naive guy (me) picked the cutest one from the box... After loosing our Cocker Spaniel due to a terrible allergy illness, I told my partner that this time around I wanted to have a bigger dog, A dog I always admired and now that we had the space I just could not get out of my head. That was the Old English Sheepdog. I tried to contact a few people but I got the same answer over and over..."No puppies available" and some other comments that I will keep to myself... That was how we met our dear friends Jean and Barrie MacDonald from the Hunson Kennels here in Tasmania. They were helpful, knowledgeable, and happy to offer a friendly hand to get a puppy. We waited 2 years before Jean found us a puppy in Queensland from Ottaba Kennels, and Ann Cassidy agreed to sell us a show puppy bitch. Since then Jean and Barrie have given us invaluable advice, constant guidance & encouragement. Getting involved with the Old English Sheepdog world was just the beginning. We got to meet some more wonderful people and at last I had the support and guidance to begin my show adventures. I am totally taken by the breed and even though it has not been easy to learn how to groom and keep the coat of my dog, it has been a wonderful experience. Going to the shows is always fun and thanks to the great group of people we are surrounded by, it has been quite an adventure. We are very excited to see what the next couple of years will bring us, we have a few plans but we are open to take every opportunity to keep on having fun. By the way, my lovely partner is still trying to figure out what is the ring he's supposed to check and to remember what is the name of those black and white dogs that look a little bit like lazzie but smaller...
